A movie to look forward to in 2006

Was taking a casual read of my copy of 8days (as usual) and stumbled (not accidentally) upon the introduction of this British movie "Nanny McPhee".

Based on Christianna Brand's "The Collected Tales of Nurse Matilda", this tale revolves around the lives of seven children, who frightened seventeen nannies away. Poor dad Cedric Brown (Colin Firth) has all but given up. Suddenly, enter Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson) using her magical powers (both emotionally and literally) to kick them into shape.

Sounds like "Mary Poppins", "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" and "Harry Potter" all in one huh? Doesn't help that Emma Thompson (who stars in Harry Potter 3 as the weird divination teacher Professor Trelawney) stars in the title role and pens the script as well. Patrick Doyle, who worked on the scoring for the recent Harry Potter 4, also does his magic here as well.

The trailer and the end-credits (available here) showed a great deal of fun and enjoyment, well not appearing to be too over-the-top Brit. Reviews that I read at IMDB show that clever casting and dialogues are the ones doing the magic in this show.

And notice how many times I mentioned magic in this pre-review of this movie? Whoot! I'll slap another person if I ever hear "there's no such thing as magic" (line courtesy of Mr Dursley).

Peeps, mark your calendar! March 6, 2006. Nanny McPhee arrives in Singapore! Please!

*Measles-alert*,
