juz came back from watching
The Day After Tomorrow with Aloy, Justin and Yongxiang. i must say, it's one of those films that i really misjudged. i never really wanted to watch this movie, coz i had been receiving bad critics review on its script. the previous movie i misjudged was
Sleepy Hollow which is directed by Tim Burton and starred Johnny Depp.
catastrophic movies like
TDAT survived a box office success normally due to the alluring special effects in the film. besides that, the story plot usually wud be cliche plots that u can really expect. I hated watching
Deep Impact,
The Core because of this reason. and it was the same reason i din really wanna watch
TDAT, especially critics commented the script was badly written and does not allow the actors to express their emotions well.
boy, was i wrong.
the plot was well based. the primary plot evolved around a family of three, a father, a mother and a teenage son. teenage son was trapped in new york during his school trip there to take part in a geek competition. father was guilty that he din spend enough time wif his son, so after he made a promise to rescue him, he went all out to save his son despite the worsening climate in the northern hemisphere, ie the whole upper part of american. damn it, i sound stupid trying to make this particular plot interesting. but hey, this primary plot became an essential part of linking three different parts of the movie together, allowing the pacing of the movie to move fluently and homogenously (unlike
Deep Impact).
the effects were spectacular. it was breath-taking and disturbing to see the places being destroyed by the various weather phenomenons. tho u can tell which scenes were computer generated, u can't help but be fascinated by the beauty and the scariness of the images at the same time. events kept happening thru-out the show, but they tried to explain them quite convincingly and being the geographical and scientific me, i really give them the thumbs-up for having me believe them (unlike
The Core).
basically i've watched most of the movies for the month of MAY, and if i were to rank them, below is my list.
Movie Ranking for the month
1) Shrek 2
2) The Day After Tomorrow
3) Van Helsing
4) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (i have yet to watch)
5) Troy
